Government Research

Government Research
Totalitarian Government

What is a Totalitarian Government?

A totalitarian government is a type of government in which the state or country has absolute power and control over the people and their lives. A totalitarian government is ruled by only one political party and in most cases has a dictator.
The party sets certain economic and social goals for the country, and it outlaws any activity that might interfere with the achievement or great success of these goals. That means if someone wants to be a in the NHL Hockey League the country and dictator would prevent the person from going in the NHL and ruin their dreams and success they could have had in their life, because they want to be in full control over everyone. A totalitarian government controls the nation’s economy through ownership or management of farmland and industry. It determines the type and quantity of crops and good that are produced.

What does a Totalitarian Government believe in?

A totalitarian government believes that each individual is considered a servant of the country and has no freedom; rights; or choice. Religious practices are forbidden unless they encourage the policies of the country and want people to be going to church and practicing their faith.
The media, government, and schools teach loyalty and to respect the country and the law and rules they have stated for everyone to follow. The system of the totalitarian government and rules use terror tactics to throw individuals or groups who oppose the laws out of the country or put them immediately in jail.
Examples of past leaders of a Totalitarian Government;

Adolf Hitler; started World War 2 and was in charge of the German and Nazi teams.
Joseph Stalin; was in charge of the Soviet Union

Example of a country with a Totalitarian Government;

Mussolini, Italy has a dictator that rules every aspect of the citizens lives.
His name is Benito Mussolini.
There is everywhere from the television, textbooks, to newspapers that tell nothing more important than the dictator. Citizens are not allowed to have possession, such as a magazine unless it is government related, and are not allowed to be roaming around with their cell phones,
It would not be a wise decision to have a business in a totalitarian country. If you were to have a business the government would tell you how to run and operate your own business.
You also have to be very cautious of what you sell, and how you sell it. If you came from another country and wanted to sell a bar of soap for example and you were selling the soap on the street, when you’re in a country with a totalitarian government you never know what might happen. Because if you make one wrong move, your business could be taken away by the government or you could instantly be put in jail, wondering what happened.
Now a day that’s what’s happening in Italy and other countries around the world with totalitarian governments.

My Life Poem

Lyric Poem
My Life

Is your life flying by?

My life goes by so fast and I don’t even stop to realize
My life goes around and around like a merry-go-round never ending
My life holds many opportunities ahead of me and it’s my chose if I should hold on to them
My life is filled with my loving family and friends always supporting me

My life is wonderful; I am very thankful to have a good life and not be living in a poor country or be in poverty
My life is great; I have a school to go to, a caring family, clothes to wear, a shelter to live in, water to drink, food to eat and an education
My life is a movie star life
My life is wonderful and wouldn’t trade it in for any other life

My life was blessed with an amazing talent in sports
My life is blessed with great gifts all around, so I should use my talents and gifts to go far in life and help other people
My life is a never ending busy bus; always running
Although my life is always busy I know I will make it through every day and God will help me to get through those long hard days

My life is filled with joy and amazing people around me
My life is filled with love and support all around
My life is being a strong committed athlete and a dedicated dancer
Life is short, have fun, fall in love, and do what you want not what someone else wants you to do

My life goes by in a blink of an eye, so I want to live every moment like I should and have a movie star life (even if I’m not famous)
My life is amazing so I want to live every day to the fullest potential
Not everyone’s life is amazing and good, but even if it’s not just live your life and make the best of every situation and every choice and opportunity you have in life
Before my life flies by I need somebody to slow me down

Haiku Poems Ocean Drift and The Mighty Winds

Haiku Poems

The Ocean Drift

The rushing blue waves
Splash upon the open shore
But gone in the sand

Mighty Winds

Wind is harsh to us
And blows the blue world around
Nature can be harsh

Quatrain Poem Pancakes

Quatrain Poem

Pancakes

Pancakes are great
When they are ate
You can have TONS of syrup…
From Europe

Potatoes, Pancakes, or Patties but pancakes are the perfect paradise for you tummy
They are like heaven
Oh yummy, yummy
I could even eat seven

You can eat them with whip cream or even blueberries
Oh, how merry
They are healthy for me and you
And maybe even Winnie the Pooh

Pancakes are a golden wheat field, filled with joy inside
You’ll always want much more
Because they’re so wonderful
So stir your pancake mix, and make sure it’s just right, and then pore…
And keep having more

Kayville, Saskatchewan Report

Kayville, Saskatchewan
Have you ever heard of the town of Kayville, Saskatchewan? It has a unique history that reflects the Romanian culture and its beginnings in Canada. Over time, many changes have taken place in Kayville but its importance to Saskatchewan history is significant. Many settlers started new lives here as they moved to Canada. The settlers started the town and built general stores, buildings, and the churches. But what is Kayville like today?

Research Questions;

What is the history of Kayville?
When did the Romanian settlers arrive in Kayville?
What types of businesses were in Kayville back in the 1900’s?
What is the history of St. Peter and Paul Church?
What is Kayville like today?

Kayville Saskatchewan was founded in 1905 by the early Romanian settlers. After 1905 the settlers started to build in Kayville around Main Street and homesteads outside the town. The very first homesteads were built in 1906 and all were cattle ranchers or farmers. By 1912-1913 a post office and school were established and in 1924 the Canadian Pacific Railway formally started Kayville. As time had passed the little town of Kayville became a busy and thriving agricultural town in rural Saskatchewan by 1925! Kayville was an organized hamlet by 1951, and in 1970 the town’s population was over 100 people. After quite a time Kayville population dropped dramatically. In 1990 Kayville School shut down and closed for good. Everyone started to abandoned Kayville and in 1998 hardly anyone was still in the town. By 2004 all businesses shut down in Kayville.

In 1905 Romanian settlers arrived in Kayville, in large numbers. They came to Saskatchewan because the government advertised land for homesteads; they got 1 quarter of land and had to pay that potion back in a certain period of time. Julius Martin and Billie McKay were the first two non-native people operating in Kayville area in 1905, as ranchers. The name Kayville comes from Billie McKay, Billie originally named the town; He toke his last name Mc- Kay and added Ville which equals Kayville! They came to conclusion of the name Kayville.
The Romanians started to form the foundation of Kayville, and expand the town and heritage. They show and tell they heritage by their food, food is huge in the Romanian culture. And some of the foods are; Perogies, Racituri (Jellied Pork Hocks), Cabbage Rolls, Mamaliga, and Borsch. They show their culture by Romanian dancing it is a traditional folk dance, and can be traced back from the nineteenth century. The Romanians also tell by their language, their language is a Romance language that 24-28 Romanians speak. Romanians are very unique through their culture and heritage that can trace back thousands of years ago. As the Romanians came to Kayville the town, buildings, and churches in Kayville bloomed and buildings popped up.

In the 1900’s Kayville had over 30 busy businesses throughout all the years and were proud of the town and what they had done and continued to expand. Some of the main businesses were; the post office, general store, local gas station, co-op, hotel and bar, barber shop, and of course the popular swimming pool complex which was known in Kayville and has been around since 1984. Main Street was always busy with people and were always going to the coffee shop which was built in 1992, the town was friendly and welcoming. Though the town was busy and businesses were all around the town, in 2004 businesses shut down and were closed for good. In January of 2009 the bar and hotel were still in use and open, shortly after they shut down and NO businesses are open in Kayville to this day.

St. Peter and Paul Church is a huge part of Kayville and was built in 1908 by the Romanian settlers. The church has been around for over 100 years and is still standing tall today. Once the Romanian settlers arrived they brought with them contents for the church, such as alter cloths, and divine items to place in the church. St. Peter and Paul Church still holds daily Sunday masses according to Orthodox faith. This church has held numerous important events for the town and community such as their 100th Anniversary which was a major event. Did you know that every Orthodox Church is built in the shape of a boat, cross, or circle? The boat sustains light and symbolizes Noah’s Ark. The cross symbolizes the cross; In the name of the Father the son and the Holy Ghost. And lastly the circle symbolizes eternal life and never ending love for god. St. Peter and Paul church is shaped in the way of a boat like Noah’s Ark. It forms like an arch and a basic style, in the earlier days the church represented early Roman meeting place. Also in the church is a huge chandelier which symbolizes light from heaven to shine on the people.

Kayville was a busy little town back in the 1900’s. The community was very friendly and always welcoming to new people and still is. But now the town is much different. The population is 7 people; 6 adults and 1 child. Most of the people are either farmers or cattle producers. NO businesses are left in Kayville today; all are vacant and abandoned.
Kayville is known to be one of many ghost towns in Canada because all buildings, schools and most of the homesteads are vacant and no lives there anymore. Like other rural towns in Saskatchewan, Kayville has declined dramatically. The farm economy went down and no money to be made, population dropped, schools closed, grain elevator shut down, and railway was taken away. This town is a historic place because of the buildings, churches, and schools it’s been around for over 100 years and had many important events take place. Kayville is a great place to learn about and explore Saskatchewan’s past and the Romanian culture, such as St. Peter and Paul and Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church as well.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the Kayville School and post office were established in 1924. Kayville was established by Canadian Pacific Railway and they built the railway all through the town. The Romanian settlers came to Kayville in 1905 because the government was offering them land and they accepted and came to Saskatchewan. Many businesses were in Kayville and now all are shut down and closed for good, Kayville is mostly vacant and abandoned. St. Peter and Paul Church was built in 1908 by the settlers and has been around for over 100 years and is still standing tall. The church still holds daily Sunday masses. Today Kayville has declined because of farm economy and population has dropped to 7 people.

Author’s Note
Kayville, Saskatchewan was a very fascinating town in rural Saskatchewan and I really enjoyed learning about this town and my culture. My background is Romanian so it was exciting to learn and explore my heritage and now I have more knowledge about the Romanian settlers. Kayville has a long history behind the town and I definitely learned when it was founded, by whom, and when. There were also many businesses in Kayville and the town was always busy with customers. In 2004 all the businesses were closed and shut down the town was vacant and abandoned. St. Peter and Paul Church was a huge part of Kayville and practices astonishing Romanian Orthodox faith. Kayville is still a town in rural Saskatchewan and is also known to be a ghost town in Canada. Memories from the past still linger in the little town of Kayville. Kayville has been made a huge impact on Saskatchewan because of the countries heritage and culture of Romania. Youth are interested in Romanian culture, background heritage, and language.

Maggie's Amazing Adventure

Maggie’s Amazing Adventure!

“That, was a nice warm cup of hot chocolate”, explained Maggie wiping off the whip cream from her lips!

“Yah, now let’s go hit the train park I heard it snowed some serious powder”, replied Gordon.

It was a chilly day out in Fernie B.C. Maggie and Gordon were on their yearly ski trip together. The two of them always went somewhere new! They have both been best buds since they were 3 years old.
Maggie is 21, with long curly brown locks. She is shorter for her age with sparkling green eyes. Maggie is very good at sports and still trying to master skiing!

Gordon has dirty blonde hair with some natural curl; he is 6’0 exactly. He is 24 years old with beautiful brown eyes! Gordon loves to go snowboarding and hit the train park.

After a long day of skiing the Big Rookies, Maggie went into the small village of Fernie to do some shopping for herself. Meanwhile Gordon stayed out in the white fluffy powder to go night skiing.

“WAKE UP Gordon it’s already 9:00am and you were supposed to get up at 8am so we could be there early, I’ve been up for 1 hour and I thought you were up”, shouted Maggie with a big bang.

“Yes, whatever I was tired I got in at 11 last night from the hill”, explained Gordon.
“And you’ll never guess who I saw training”, said Gordon jumping up form his bed.

“Who, Who tell me”, Maggie said anxiously.

“ERIK GUAY”.

“Oh my gosh, he’s the best skier ever in the world and my favorite athlete”, explained Maggie so excited she could barely breath!

“I know”, said Gordon annoyed “I hear you talk about him every single day”!

After Gordon and Maggie ate their breakfast they headed off for the ski hill. They just arrived at the hill and all the B.C. skiers were filing into the lodge on a cold day! Last night it had snowed 32cm of powder.

Maggie went to the chairlift to hit her first run of the day. Gordon stayed behind to grab a cup of coffee in the lodge.

“WOW, what nice fresh powder”, thought Maggie to herself!

After Maggie got of the chairlift she got often momentum and started off down the hill. Before Maggie had even got half way down the hill she had fallen various times!

Maggie went for a left sharp turn and wiped out; she was rolling down the hill and lost both of her skis. Finally she came to a sudden stop, by that time her goggles had bit the dust and her face was all snow with spots of red. Maggie had really hurt her leg and was in major pain.

In a while a young man came and saw Maggie lying there. The man had his helmet on and goggles, he was all bundled up so you couldn’t see him. He helped Maggie up and the Ski Patrol crew came to help her up onto a bed to get her down the hill.

Gordon was just coming out of the lodge and saw someone in the bed. He recognized Maggie’s purple jacket with white designs on it. Gordon quickly rushed over and saw that it was her.

A whole half in hour pasted by and finally the paramedics came in to look at Maggie’s leg. They told her she had broken her leg, they were going to take her to the Fernie General Hospital to get her leg fixed up and Maggie would have to be on crutches for a few months. This meant that Maggie wouldn’t be doing anymore skiing this year, or any fun activities and sports.

By 10pm Maggie was up and out of the hospital with her pink cast on and her plain old colored crutches.

While she and Gordon were walking towards the car Maggie thought to herself who was that young man who helped me up and called the Ski Patrol?

“Hey Gordon who was that man all bundled up and came down with me”, asked Maggie curiously?

“Well, he had a ski racing jacket and ski pants on, and it said “Alpine National Race Team”, replied Gordon!

Just before Maggie and Gordon reached the car a nurse from the hospital came rushing out and yelled, “Maggie Wilson wait”.

“A man is here to see you, please come back in the hospital”, shouted the nurse.

“OK, I’ll be there in a minute”, shouted Maggie back to the friendly nurse.

“Let me just stay behind and I’ll start the car”, said Gordon.

As the hospital doors slid open there stood a young man with a jacket on that said “Alpine National Race Team”!

“Oh, are you ERIK GUAY”, exclaimed Maggie with a huge smile on her face?

“Yes, I sure am and I just came down to see how your leg was”, said Erik.
“Yah, it’s good but it does hurt a little with the cast just put on”, explained Maggie nervously!

“Well I’m glad your ok now”, replied Erik with a friendly smile.

Maggie and Erik sat down and talked for a while with a nice warm cup of hot cocoa! After that Erik walked with Maggie to the car and by that time Gordon had fallen asleep, with the radio blasting loud!

The next morning Gordon and Maggie headed off for the hill. Maggie wanted to go skiing so badly, but couldn’t! Maggie just waited in the lodge the whole morning and in the afternoon her and Gordon her going to head back home for Edmonton. The whole morning Maggie was reading her favorite book; Twilight! And after reading a few hundred pages, Maggie got in line for a chocolate muffin and just as she was walking back to her table Erik Guay had just walked in!

“Hey Maggie, how are you doing”, asked Erik?

“Pretty good just very tired and relaxing my leg”, said Maggie with her right leg resting on the chair!

“Just wanted to know if your doing ok and how your feeling”?

“Yeah, I’ll be ok thanks to your help”, said Maggie with a twinkle in her eyes!

“I better get going I have to do a practice run before starting the race to warm up me muscles”, said Erik in a strong voice.

“I really hope I can see you again”, exclaimed Maggie with a sad expression.

“Well, I sure hope so too”, replied Erik and gave Maggie a big huge!

After Erik left, Maggie felt like she was in love!
At 12:30pm Gordon came in and Maggie told him all about her love story with Erik! Maggie really hoped that she would see him again! And that was Maggie’s Amazing Adventure in Fernie B.C!

A few months later

By the time it was spring Maggie’s leg had heeled and she was much better. Maggie started a new job at a ski shop and Gordon became a lawyer. They both are doing well and have great paying jobs!! By the time it was winter Gordon and Maggie headed off for the mountains. And guess who was at Red Lodge Montana Ski Resort? ERIK GUAY! Maggie and Erik are really good friends now and they hang out a lot now! Maggie decided to also join the Alpine National Ski Team!

Bride Wars

The best movie ever is Bride WARS
Bride Wars is the best movie ever because; this movie has a wonderful story line and it teaches you a valuable life lesson, Bride Wars is very funny, and the last reason why this is the best movie ever is because it stars Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson!

Why this is the best movie ever you ask? Well because; it has an amazing story line and teaches good life lessons! This movie is definitely hilarious and makes anyone have a good chuckle! And of course Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway work very well together and are very good actors, they are also super funny in their own unique ways!!

Firstly, this movie has an awesome story line and teaches you life lessons. The movie starts out with two best friends named Emma and Livy and they have always dreamed of having their weddings at the Plaza in June! When they were younger they had pretend weddings in their bedrooms and always dreamed of the day that they would get married with their gorgeous wedding gowns and beautiful hair! Now time has passed and they have moved on in their lives, Emma is a teacher and Livy is a lawyer. One night when Emma came in from work she had found a fortune cookie on the counter, and she cracked it open and in it was an engagement ring! Her boyfriend had asked her to get married and in the next few days Livy’s boyfriend had asked her to get married as well! So, in the next week they were both were going to a wedding planner to arrange their dates. And what they didn’t know is that their weddings were going to be schuleded on the same day and that’s where the chaos began!

Bride Wars teaches you a really good life lesson, and to really treat your friends with respect and love or you will lose them. In the movie since they weren’t going to change their wedding days, then both would have their wedding on the same day! Since that happened they wouldn’t call each other, e-mail each other, or go for their daily run in the park anymore. It was getting out of control and at the last minute they finally realized that they really need one another at their weddings.

Also, this movie wouldn’t be the same if there wasn’t any humour in it! Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway are extremely funny! In one of the scenes Emma is at the hair salon getting a tan and just about to hop in the tanning bed, since her and Lily weren’t getting along Livy decides to switch the tanning colour to a really dark orange! When Emma walks out of the salon she is stunned and is very anger. Emma kind of guessed it was Livy and she was absolutely right! So the next day Livy was getting her hair done for the wedding and getting some highlights in. Well the hair dresser was mixing her colour Emma snuck in and mixed BLUE colour in with the blonde! As soon as the hair dresser raises the towel of Livy’s head she screams “MY HAIR IS BLUE, IT’S BLUE”! Emma was not impressed with orange skin and Livy was not very happy with blue hair!

Lastly, a movie is not the same unless there is good acting! Kate Hudson is an amazing actor and super duper funny. She has starred in many movies and this one is my favourite of her’s. When you watch the movie it feels like you are a character in the movie and one of the bridesmaids! Anne Hathaway is also a wonderful actor! She does very well in this movie and really plays the part as if she was a soon to be bride! Kate and Anne do work well together and made an awesome movie!

In conclusion Bride Wars is the best movie ever made! It has a really good story line and teaches life lessons. Bride Wars is very funny and makes anyone laugh and Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway are very good actors. So if you’re in the mode for humour, good acting, and a good story then you should watch Bride Wars, and see if they will be at each others weddings?
